Final Score: Chicago 6, Cleveland 2
W- Jose Contreras (3-7)
L- Jeremy Sowers (2-6)
Baseballs:
**Jose Contreras- I can give him credit, but here is a guy who was just awful earlier this year, he got demoted, and he got his head clear and tonight, he was on. What gets me was the Indians knew what to expect, but they still had bad at bats. So he threw 8 innings, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 8. Jose now has a 4.84 ERA, I am sure we’ll face him again next week.
**Ramon Castro- Ramon got the big hit, a 3 run shot giving his team a 4-1 lead for good. Ramon now has 5 Home Runs and with his 3 RBIs, he has 18 RBIs. Castro is hitting .230 on the season.
**Alexi Ramirez- Alexi finished the night at 3-4 and he drove in his 39Th run of the season. Ramirez is now hitting .272.
**Paul Konerko- Paulie had another good night, he went 2-3 with a walk and he drove in his 49Th run. Paul is now hitting .290.
**Jim Thome- Thome went 2-3 with a walk, moving into 12Th place by himself with the most walks ever. Thome is hitting .247 on the year.
**Gordon Beckham- Gordon again went 2-4 and had a great series, finishing up 8-11. Gordon drove in his 14Th run of the season, he is hitting .278 on the year.
**Matt Thornton- Matt finished up the game in the 9Th, he walked 1 and struck out 2. Matt now has a 2.84 ERA.

1-3, 1 BB, 1 Run Scored
**Victor Martinez- Victor finished the night 1-3 with a walk and he is now hitting .313.
**Jamey Carroll & Ben Francisco- They both went 1-3 at the plate. Jamey is hitting .283 and Ben is hitting .228.
**Joe Smith- Joe did a very good job, throwing 1 1/3 innings of shutout ball, he walked 1 and struck out 2. Joe is starting to put things together. He has a 4.15 ERA.
**Kerry Wood- It’s ashame we have to put our closer in the game when we are losing, but when the Indians lose 5 games in a row, you have to put the closer in sometime. He threw a scoreless 9Th inning and he cut down his 5.27 ERA.
1/2 Baseball, 1/2 Goofballs:

What's he doing still starting?
**Jeremy Sowers- Stop me if you heard this before. Jeremy was sailing through 5 innings, but in the 6Th inning, he gave up 4 runs and 5 straight hits to put the game out of reach. In all, he worked 6 innings, giving up 5 runs (5 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 2. I can’t understand why Eric Wedge, who should be doing everything and ANYTHING to stop this string continues to throw Jeremy out there every 5Th day. He’s just not an effective starter and really, what you do more often than not is you put added pressure on that young player and when he doesn’t perform, his confidence goes down even more. Why not insert him as our long man? We know he can be effective for 3 or 4 innings and he only faces the opponent 2 times at most. It makes sense to me, but what do I know?
Goofballs:
**Indians Offense- They just didn’t care tonight, 2 runs, 5 hits, 2 walks, 10 strikeouts. Just horrible at bats against Contreras. No excuse for that at all. Where’s the fire this team had just 2 years ago? All I saw were guys putting their heads down because they were down by 4 runs in the 9Th inning. They quit, it’s that simple.
**Jose Veras- He didn’t do his job, putting a 0 on the board. Then again, he might not have had a real chance. He threw 2/3 of an inning, giving up 1 run (1 earned). Veras has been a mixed bag so far with us, he has a 5.86 ERA.
**Jhonny Peralta- Jhonny committed his 7Th error of the season.
**Rafael Perez- He walked Thome, didn’t do his job. The run didn’t score though, so he still has a 9.26 ERA.
**Shin-Soo Choo- Choo struck out 3 times and he made the biggest blunder of the game, losing track of the ball and allowing another insurance run to score. Just cannot let that happen.

On Deck:
So when are the Indians going to make changes? I guess they are fine being 18 games under .500. See, I am not and here’s why. I feel like the players are again feeling sorry for themselves and show no emotion. I keep going back to this, but the one thing I miss seeing are the pies after a win at home. There was that swagger two years ago too that no deficit was too big for the team to go after because they WERE going to win, no matter what. But now we get shots in the dugout and the team just is depressed that they are losing by say 2 runs. If they aren’t going to change managers, then they must change philosophies. If they aren’t going to win the division, then they must show that they care to win anyway and find a way to do it. It’s bad when I care more about the players winning or losing than the players do. Having said that, Thursday is an off day and Friday starts a new series with Oakland. I will be at the game Friday evening, game starts at 7:05 PM, airing on STO with Indians On Deck at 6:30 PM. Trevor Cahill (5-6, 4.23) he will be opposed by David Huff (3-3, 6.26). It should be a fun battle between two young pitchers. The game will air on WTAM 1100-AM, so let’s get this win.
